Partnership with BRA

Partnership with Baltic Road Association

Baltic Road Council was established in the year 1989 in Latvia. In the year 2000, it changed its name into Baltic Road Association. At the moment BRA is merely a public institution organised by national road administrations of the three Baltic States.

The main goal of BRA is to co-ordinate their co-operation and to find a common strategy of different road sector issues in the Baltic countries. The road authorities in all Baltic countries are in a similar economic situation and facing similar problems. BRA aims to join the efforts and to tighten contacts with the road administrations in EU-countries. One way is to organize international seminars and congresses; BRA is organizing every three year a technical conference in some Baltic country. The 26th Baltic Road Congress was arranged in Kuressaare, Estonia in August 2006, the next one will be held in Latvia in 2009.

The permanent committee of BRA includes 11 members, four from Estonia and Latvia respectively, and tree from Lithuania. BRA has established separate working groups of highly qualified specialists from the three countries in order to solve the most urgent issues. BRA has plans to expand its membership base so that also different public and private organisations, associations as well as private companies could join in.
